Who gets extra protection under the Redundancy, Pregnancy and Family Leave Act 2023?
Under Protection from Redundancy, Pregnancy and Family Leave Act 2023 additional protection is now given to:
- Expectant mothers
- Those adopting a child
- Those on maternity leave

What does this additional protection mean for employers ?
Following the introduction of the Protection from Redundancy, Pregnancy and Family Leave Act 2023 all qualifying persons have:
- The right to be offered suitable alternative employment in a redundancy situation
This protection takes effect from the point that an employee informs their employer that they are pregnant or have been accepted for a placement of a child (whether this is done orally or in writing).
How long does the redundancy protection period last under the Protection from Redundancy, Pregnancy and Family Leave Act 2023 ?
For those returning from maternity leave, adoption leave or shared parental leave. The additional protection period is until 18 months after the birth of the child (or adoption placement)
